2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT RS

Some people catch the car bug from their parents, helping work on a classic muscle car or an exotic. I got my first taste from my brother and his Mazda RX-7, as well as through friends and their Hondas. I read Super Street and Sport Compact Car magazines, not Hot Rod. I watched Option videos full of drifting, twisty mountain passes and road course racing not NASCAR. I browsed Japanese Hyper Rev catalogs for parts, not Jegs or Summit Racing. So why am I now the owner of a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro? Let's just say it wasn't nice treatment from Camaro owners on the street that lead me to my current vehicle choice.

During my brief stay in Ohio for school I ran into many a Camaro owner on the street and, for the most part, they weren't too fond of my little "rice burner." But, I started looking past the bad apples dotting the parking lots of middle Ohio and educated myself on the history of automotive performance in America. It seemed that everywhere I turned General Motors was the fulcrum of innovation to achieve today's standards. My head really began to turn when my drag racing friends threw out their Hondas and B-series engines in favor of Chevrolet Cobalts and GM's Ecotec power plant. However, the pinnacle of my conversion into a GM fan came at the hands of Mr. John Heinricy, a now retired GM engineer with a knack for burning rubber. Watching John Heinricy burn up the track at Buttonwillow in a Chevrolet Cobalt SS, dusting an 800 hp R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R in the process, was magical. In fact, just three short years later I found myself joining the GM team as an engineer working on advanced powertrains.

It wouldn't be totally wrong to believe that I picked up a 2010 Camaro because it's a GM vehicle and they paid my bills for many years, but there was much more to it. The Camaro happened to meet my check list of vehicle requirements, rear wheel drive, peppy powertrain options, sleek and sporty exterior, leather seats, independent rear suspension and certain aftermarket support. Now a knuckle headed muscle guy might say I broke down and submitted to the call of the V8, but alas I am a stubborn one. Despite my new found respect for the LS engine I could not get past the message board of LS worshipers who used to lambast my teenage self on the internet. Also, being a mechanical engineer working in advanced technology I wanted the opportunity to tune the next iteration of fuel injection technology, so I went with the 3.6L SIDI V6 engine. Direct injection technology intrigues me and I wanted to create a project with high performance, but at the greatest possible efficiency. Thus began Project Chevrolet Camaro 2LT.
